Samtica is indicated for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer in adult men, and is generally used alongside prednisolone or prednisone, which helps lower the risk of side effects such as high blood pressure, fluid retention, and low potassium levels that can occur with Abiraterone treatment alone. It is a hormonal therapy rather than a chemotherapy drug, though it may sometimes be used in combination with other cancer treatment protocols as determined by the treating oncologist.
Because Abiraterone can affect liver function, regular liver enzyme monitoring is required throughout treatment — typically before starting therapy, every two weeks for the first three months, and monthly thereafter. Patients are advised to report any signs of liver problems, such as yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or persistent nausea and vomiting, to their doctor immediately. Samtica is not intended for use in women or children, and effective contraception is advised for partners of patients undergoing treatment where applicable.
