Description
A mast is also another name for flagpole. The mast has an important job — to support the sails, which allows the wind to propel the ship. Other types of masts are used to support flags and called flagpoles.A flag that is at half mast has been brought down to a point halfway down the pole as an expression of sadness at someone's death: The flags at Buckingham Palace were all flying at half-mast.
