Mezzanine Floor

A mezzanine is an intermediate floor (or floors) in a building which is open to the floor below. It is placed halfway (mezzo means 'half' in Italian) up the wall on a floor which has a ceiling at least twice as high as a floor with minimum height.A mezzanine is a partial floor with an area 25% or less of the floor it is located on. Other construction features — such as whether the area in question is a balcony or a closed-in area — do not play a role in determining if the area is a mezzanine.As per the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, mezzanine floors may be permitted with a minimum height of 2.750 meters between any 2 floors above ground in every type of building given the same is counted as part of the total permissible FAR (floor area ratio) and height of the building.
