Pantoprazole 40 Mg Tablet

Pantoprazole works by irreversibly blocking the hydrogen-potassium ATPase enzyme system (the "proton pump") in the stomach's parietal cells, significantly reducing the production of gastric acid. By lowering acid levels, it allows irritated or damaged esophageal and stomach tissue to heal, relieving symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and stomach pain caused by excess acid.

It is commonly prescribed for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (a condition causing excessive acid production). Pantoprazole is also frequently used alongside long-term NSAID or corticosteroid therapy to prevent gastric ulcers and reduce the risk of GI bleeding in patients who need ongoing pain management. The tablet is typically taken once daily, preferably before a meal, and should be swallowed whole without crushing or chewing, as it is often enteric-coated to protect the drug from stomach acid until it reaches the small intestine.
