Pirfeheal contains Pirfenidone, an antifibrotic agent that works by reducing the formation of fibrotic (scarred) tissue and inflammation in the lungs — the hallmark features driving disease progression in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Over time, IPF causes lung tissue to become thick and stiff, making it progressively harder to breathe; Pirfenidone helps slow this scarring process, supporting better lung function and quality of life for patients.

Treatment is typically started at a lower dose and gradually up-titrated over the first couple of weeks to improve tolerability, eventually reaching the full prescribed daily dose taken in divided doses with food. Taking it with food and at the same time each day helps maintain consistent effect and reduces gastrointestinal side effects. Patients should be aware that Pirfenidone can increase skin sensitivity to sunlight, so sun protection measures are advised during treatment. Regular liver function monitoring is recommended before and during treatment, as drug-induced liver injury has been observed in some patients.
