Description

Induction sealing creates a hermetic seal by passing a capped bottle under the induction sealer in a non-contact process. The system's sealing head produces an electromagnetic field that heats up the foil liner inside the cap. The hot foil in turn melts the polymer coating on the inner-seal.Induction sealing is a non-contact heating process that welds a foil laminate (called an inner-seal) to the lip of jars and bottles. The sealing process takes place after the filling and capping operation. Capped containers pass under an induction cap sealer mounted over a conveyor.In fact, the FDA recognises induction sealing as an effective means of providing tamper-evidence. Consumers now expect a "safety-seal" when they open a container filled with pills, tablets or liquid OTC products. Packagers have found an induction seal provides additional benefits beyond safety.Sealing is the surface-to-surface joining technique of materials using a substance which usually is of a different type, and which adheres to the surfaces of the two adherents to be joined, transferring the forces from one adherent to the other. The substance used for sealing is known as a sealant or sealer.Product containers with raw material and a cap with a foil liner pass through an induction sealer. As containers pass through the sealer, there is a transfer of energy from a controlled electromagnetic field. The energy gets transferred to the foil liner(aluminium foil), which creates heat.Glass containers need to be treated before they can be induction sealed. Amber glass jars, used in cosmetics for their UV-blocking capabilities, are an example. Finally, metal containers can be induction sealed, but sealing is made difficult by the heat generated in the process.Potential for Damage: Finally, some materials can cause damage to your induction cook top, leading to expensive repairs or the need to replace your entire appliance. For example, aluminium foil can cause damage if placed in contact with the cook top, so it needs to be used with care.
