Description
Electrocoagulation consists of pairs of metal sheets called electrodes, that are arranged in pairs of two—anodes and cathodes. Using the principles of electrochemistry, the cathode is oxidized (loses electrons), while the water is reduced (gains electrons), thereby making the wastewater better treated.A procedure that uses heat from an electric current to destroy abnormal tissue, such as a tumor or other lesion. It may also be used to control bleeding during surgery or after an injury. The electric current passes through an electrode that is placed on or near the tissue.The main principle behind electrocoagulation is producing metal ions from electrodes into water through electrolysis. These metal ions form coagulants that help in segregating microbeads from water.Electrochemical oxidation is based on the application of an electric current or a potential difference between two electrodes (anode and cathode), with which hydroxyl radicals or other oxidizing species can be generated, depending on the anode material used and the type of electrolyte of support used.
