Description
The main aim of spice grinding is to obtain smaller particle size with good product quality in terms of flavouring and colour. In the normal grinding process, heat is generated when energy is used to fracture a particle into a smaller size. You can grind your own spices using an electric spice grinder, blender, food processor or coffee grinder. There are also several manual methods for grinding spices by hand. These methods include using a mortar and pestle, rasp grater and even a rolling pin.For example, your pepper mill (also called a grinder) is built to grind one spice alone, peppercorns. And you may have a nutmeg grater in your lineup of kitchen tools. The grinding mills are categorised in three groups, namely (i) tumbling mills,(ii) roller mills, and (iii) very fine grinding mills which include (a) high speed pulverising or hammer mill, (b) vibrating mill, (c) pin mill, (d) turbo mill, (e) fluid energy mill, (f) stirred media mill.
