Starch Paste Unit

A water-soluble Adhesive prepared from cooked Starch. Starch paste is usually made with rice or wheat starch. Starch based adhesives adhere well to cellulosic materials. They are stable and remain water-soluble with time.The basic chemical formula of the starch molecule is (C6H10O5)n. Starch is a polysaccharide comprising glucose monomers joined in α 1,4 linkages. The simplest form of starch is the linear polymer amylose; amylopectin is the branched form.Mixing most starches in warm water produces a paste, such as wheatpaste, which can be used as a thickening, stiffening or gluing agent. The greatest industrial non-food use of starch is as an adhesive in the papermaking process.
